Monir was born in 1951 in Gaza City, Palestine, to refugee parents from Haifa and El Majdel (today called Ashkelon). He came to the States in 1979 and is a naturalized US citizen. He is the past president of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), LA chapter, and was a speaker in the Arab-Jewish Speakers Bureau in Los Angeles.
